Brand Senior Center
Moore's Brand Senior Citizen Community Center is located at 501 E. Main and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. An average of 100 people per day take advantage of the facility, with attendance gradually increasing.
A transportation bus owned and operated by the Moore Council on Aging (MCOA) provides rides for senior citizens from their addresses in the Moore city limits to the Center. This service also serves seniors with transportation to banks, stores, the library, doctor's offices, and other places within the city.
Activities at the Center include cards and dominos, quilting, pool, ceramics, nutritional programs, art lessons, crafts, a congregate meals program through Aging Services Inc., periodic hearing testing, monthly blood pressure and blood sugar screening, visits from legal aid representatives and other pertinent professional groups, and other incidental activities.
The VFW is sponsoring a senior citizen dance on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evening at 7:00. The fourth Tuesday evening, a meeting of the local AARP chapter is held.
In 1977, a group of senior citizens incorporated under the name of the Moore Council on Aging, and began meeting in a converted dwelling owned by the City of Moore. As the group grew in numbers, they were able to obtain the use of a larger facility owned by a private corporation.
The Council on Aging began a project to raise funds for a new facility. Land was donated to the MCOA for the project, and the MCOA and the City of Moore worked together to meet qualifications for a grant. In 1993, sufficient funds had been raised for the MCOA's portion of the project cost, title of the property was transferred to the City, and construction begun.
On February 22, 1994, the MCOA moved into its new quarters. Under an agreement with the City, the MCOA is the principal user of the facility, which is owned and maintained by the City of Moore.
Drivers Needed for Aging Services Meal Delivery
The Moore Brand Senior Center is in need of drivers to deliver meals to homebound Moore residents. Contact George Henschel at 793-9069 if you have a desire to help those in need.
