Schools and Education in Moore
The Community of Moore is blessed with an outstanding public school system, several excellent private schools, and nearby higher education facilities.
The Moore Public Schools includes 2 high school campuses, 5 junior high schools (grades 7-9), 21 elementary schools, and an alternative school. MPS schools map. Accreditation for the schools is held from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Oklahoma Department of Vo-Tech Education.
The district employs over 1300 certified teachers and administrators, along with 750+ support personnel. The ratio of students to teachers is 15/1. Average experience of the teaching staff is 11 years, and over 500 hold advanced degrees.
There are 10,748 elementary students in the Moore Public Schools; 4,625 junior high; and 4,021 high school, for a total of 19,394 students. The average ACT scores for Moore is 21.4 (compared to a state-average of 19.4). In 2004, over 3,000 students were enrolled in advanced placement or pre-advanced placement courses. The graduation rate for MPS is 78.5%, the national average is 74.5%.
In sporting competition since 1990, MPS athletes have won state championships in girls softball, boys baseball, boys and girls cross country, boys swimming, and cheerleading. Moore Schools also boast acclaimed music programs.
Moore is served by the Moore-Norman Technology Center. Located just south of our city limits, the Center has a student base that includes 800 students and a full-time equivalency of about 1100 students. Last year, over 17,000 adults enrolled in short term training courses at Moore Norman Technology Center.
The City of Moore is also the home of Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College. Located along I-35, the College is a Christian institution committed to the intellectual, spiritual, social, moral, and physical development of its students.
